audience feedback questions for evaluation

1. After watching our music video do you feel it fits into the pop genre and if not why?

Audience feedback

After we had finished our music video we wanted audience feedback to see how we could improve if we had to do our project again.  Therefore, we decided to show two small groups of people within our target audience our video and gauge their reactions.  Our target audience is predominately females, within the age group of 17-25.   By doing this, we can use any constructive criticism to help us make any improvements and help us evaluate our video overall in blog posts we need to complete in the future.  By making these necessarily improvements, we can then target a wider audience.


Our questions were:
- After watching our music video, do you feel it fits into the pop genre and if not why?
- Do you feel that our narrative suited the genre of our music video?
- Do you think the actions on screen related to the lyrics?
- Do you feel we used appropriate costumes in relation to our song?
- Do you feel we could improve our music video? 
- Overall, how would you rate our music video out of 10 and reasons why?

Therefore, in order to get audience feedback we used a selection of students who were available at the time of filming audience feedback.  This was good, as we had some media students and some who weren't all within the same age group, however due to this we were unable to collect a representative sample of our target market as they may all have different opinions.  The questions we asked were relevant to our music video, and we attempting to engage the audience by a group environment as this encouraged everyone to speak more and be more open. 
  They all understood the aims of our video, and overall they enjoyed it with their only criticism being that we could improve the ending.  After hearing this, we quickly re-shot people holding up the words 'ever' on a sheet of paper in order to break up the ending and make it more interesting.  Therefore, after this they liked the video more, and found it cheerful to watch, they also liked how we cut scenes so we didn't use a long take even though this was difficult to do with some areas of the song.  The only other criticism was that there could have been more exciting and well known locations however they understood that due to the lyrics this was difficult to achieve.  Our audience feedback group also though that we could have benefited from more characters, which we would take into consideration next time we needed to film.  If we had to do our video again, we would take on board the constructive criticism that our audience feedback provided, and make the adjustments necessarily in order to improve our music video.

Twitter page

This is our Kate Nash twitter page, here we created a page in order to directly appeal to our target market.  We have 48 followers, and this use of social networking allows our music to be spread across a wider demographic of people, and allows our video to go viral.

Facebook page

This is the Facebook page we have created for our Kate Nash music video in order for our music to become popular on social networking websites such as Facebook.  This will also appeal to our target market, as they are the the people who most commonly use social networking websites.  This will make our music video more well known and popular, allowing audience feedback to increase as more people watch our video and write additional comments on our Facebook page. 

Facebook Group

We made a group on Alex's Facebook for our music video. This will attract more people to watch the video and promote the song and artist. Facebook is a very good way of promoting artists today as it is the most popular social networking site.

Evaluation of progress so far

Date: 9/12/11
At this point in our project we have designed our magazine advert, and edited it in order to create the final version.  We have finished our digipack, using photography pictures in order to gain a clearer focus, and finished our initial filming with the last of the re shoots taking place in order to improve our music video.
We believe after creating a suitable magazine advert, we have improved this and made it more realistic by adding various things onto it such as the artists title, and a suitable music production company.  We feel we have been creative, by using photography and adding the necessary information on the branch of the tree in the picture so it does not take away from the main focus of our magazine advert.
We have edited all of the music video, and are just finishing adjusting certain colours, after this we have recognised some errors and re-shot two pieces of material in order to make our music video more interesting, we finished the last re shoot today.  This is to make our music video stand out in an overcrowded market (17-25) where many artists try to aim their music.                              



The editing went well, however we had some technical difficulties with some computer software, even loosing the occasional piece of work whilst having a system that crashed quickly without warning.  However, apart from this progress is good and we continue to work well in a group.

The magazine would we put our advert in and why

The first magazine we would want to advertise our artist in is NME - (New Music Express). This is because it is purely a music dedicated magazine and therefore, getting our artist in this magazine is likely to increase sales to Kate Nash's fans. NME mainly covers rock and indie artists, this means Kate Nash would fit into this magazine as some people would class her as an indie artist.   However there are draw backs to advertising in this magazine as the growth of music magazines is reaching maturity, with many readers going for magazines such as 'cosmopolitian' or 'more' that cover a wide variety of topics with a focus on an individual popular artist some weeks.  The audience of 'NME' itself is slightly older, and therefore not all of them may be interested in Kate Nash.
Therefore, another magazine we could advertise in is More magazine. There is not a dedicated magazine to pop music, however it does include individual artists with unique features such as interviews and quiz's the artist has filled out.  This means this magazine is more likely to be popular as it includes their lives as well as music, and saves the consumer money by having a variety of topics in a magazine instead of just basing it on purely music.  For women, this is often a preferred option, with a selection of magazines to choose from that include music features.  An example of the variety is more, cosmopolitan, and even vogue.  This shows how the artists can be selected through magazines for a particular demographic.

feature within it about Beyonce.  This picture shows the first page of the spread, with a picture of her the title and minimal writing, however the audience know there will be a feature about her due to her being on the front cover.  (Shown beneath).  Therefore, after doing this research we feel Kate Nash would benefit the most from being in a magazine such as cosmopolitan, a magazine that has a wide audience, with its most common target market being 17-25 year olds.  This will fit into Kate Nash's target market and consequently boost sales.

Final magazine advert

This is the final magazine advert that we designed. We decided to put a quote on top of the advert to show the consumer how good the album is and persuades the target audience to buy it. NME is also a trustworthy company and a well known music magazine to all ages. Facebook and twitter images have been added to the top to show the reader that Kate Nash has both of these accounts in which the consumer can go and look up. Nash's record labels logo has been placed at the bottom left corner to promote the company, the colour of the logo blend in nicely with the background but still readable. We decided to move the itunes sign and date that consumers can buy the album so the main focus is now on Kate Nash, the name of the album and also the quote. The next thing that your eye focuses on is the itunes logo and date which is the next important thing.

Development of magazine cover

This is our initial picture we decided to use for our magazine coverThis keeps a running theme as the back cover links to this with the same outfit, by doing this it shows how we have kept the costume continuous throughout.  We decided to do this as it makes it clearer to our audience that the main artist is the focus of our digipack.  This is our first picture without editing, therefore an initial rough copy.

Magazine poster idea

Here is a draft for our magazine poster, after editing it slightly by including 'Kate Nash' in a large font.  We decided to colour the 'K' and 'N' in order to make our artists name stand out and look more effective, attracting the consumers eye due to the aesthetically pleasing colours that complement each other.  This colour theme is also used on the album cover. Underneath, decided on  the album name 'Foundations' showing how this is the first album we have produced from Kate Nash, and is a crucial stage in making our album a success.  We have also included an itunes release date along the branch on our magazine cover, this is due to our target market (15-24) being an age group that constantly downloads music instead of buying it from a shop.  This is an attempt to make our magazine article more successful

These are a variety of magazine advertisements we found online when looking for inspiration for our magazine advert.  From this research, we have found that all the artists have a picture of themselves with their name near the picture so the audience can see the correlation between the two.  Also, bright aesthetically pleasing colours have been used to catch the target markets attention with the title being in black or white to stand out.
When looking at what magazines Kate Nash could appear in, we looked for some inspiration.  Underneath, are a variety of artists similar to Kate Nash whether in genre or target audience and the magazines they go in.  From this, we have found that due to a lack of music videos, artists often appear on the cover of popular magazines that their target market read in order to gain recognition, or on branded popular magazines such as 'vogue' to show exclusivity by talking about their life or a new song.

These are the two pannels that are going to be inside the digipak along with the image and lyrics image.
We wanted to include an information pannel so the audience could feel more connected with the artist and find out some more background information. This will then hopefully get the fans talking to eachother more and feel like a unit as they know more information about their shared interest.
Plus, we thought that including a promotional image will show the fans Kate Nash's promotional adverts before the public which will make them feel like it was worth buying the album more and again, feel more important and connected with the artist.

This is our final design for a pannel inside the digipak. We decided to make a pannel dedicated to the lyrics as this makes the audience feel a connection with the artist as they can sing along to the song. We chose this picture as the glittery lips link to the album cover and also it is in the music video.

This is our album cover for our digi pak, we decided on this as after our initial market research shows how black and white are the most effective use of colours in order for the album to stand our with some elements of colour being used without it being overpowering.  Therefore, we have used pink 'glitter' lips, and a pink colour of the 'K' and 'N' of Kate Nash to make her name stand out so it is easily recognisable to consumers.  We have also used a popular song title underneath to attract the audience.

This is our final back cover for the digipak we are making. We decided to use this one because the writing was easier to read than before when it was in a rainbow style as the red stands out.  The colours used complement Alex's outfit, whilst representing her eccentric personality as she is wearing a very unique outfit (red hat with white and red stripy long socks). The forest was a good place to take the picture as it shows how the artist is unique and she displays this within her songs even though her music is in a highly populated genre.  By doing this it shows how Kate Nash is trying to differentiate herself from other artists competing for the same audience's attention. We have included a barcode on the bottom right hand corner, this is to show the audience that it is ligitimate. Also, showing the record label above the barcode shows the audience which label Kate Nash is on if they did not already know and promotes the record label.
